TRADITIONAL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

The Intercultural Association of Greater Victoria and PUENTE Theatre Society have joined together to bring the joy and art of storytelling directly to schools. A select number of storytellers will be available to tell stories from around of the world, all in the hope of raising the awareness (particularly with young listeners) of the richness of other cultures, and the richness of the Canadian mosaic.

Booking Information: Call Steven at ICA (250) 388-4728.

Friends of PUENTE Theatre, please pass this information to teachers and other school staff you know, so we can get this excellent program to your neighbourhood school.

At last -- Elicura Chihuailaf's book Message to Chileans is available in English! Elicura is the Chilean Aboriginal poet from the Mapuche nation who was invited by PUENTE Theatre to help with our project “Journey to Mapu”, exploring the relationship between Latin American immigrants and Canadian First Nations.  He visited us in 2004, conducted workshops, gave presentations and impressed everybody with his eloquence  and his beautiful poetry.  He was then invited to take part in the International Symposium “Artists of Conscience” which took place in Victoria BC the following year, so he came to Vancouver Island a second time. On this opportunity we took him North to Alert Bay where he found many spiritual connections. To get information about his meaningful book visit www.trafford.com and follow the links to the bookstore.  “Message to Chileans” is important not only for Chileans but for all who demand justice for Aboriginal people and care about Mother Earth and the well being of all its inhabitants!

PUENTE's Artistic Director Lina de Guevara was a panelist at the Staging Difference Symposium: issues of Canadian intercultural theatre, part of the IMPACT 09 Festival in Kitchener Ontario September 25-27, 2009. (read Lina's thoughts )
