Puppets & Traditions
Celebrate Multiculturalism on the International Day for the Elimination of Racism!
A Giant Puppet Procession with International Storytellers.
Fun for all ages! A global coming together for the whole family.
Working from designs created by immigrant newcomer artists (pictured above), we've been creating giant puppets and you’re invited to meet them for their very first public appearance.
Directed by Lina de Guevara of PUENTE Theatre and Puppeteer Tim Gosley.
Director's note: The inspiration for these puppets came from the participants' memories of the celebrations they had witnessed as children and also from the questions: Why did you come to Canada? and What do you expect to find here?. After reflecting over these topics each person made a small puppet, a model that expressed their answers to some of these questions. Under Tim Gosley's masterly guidance the mini-puppets became the giant puppets that were paraded in front of the audience. It has been a marvelous process and the hours spent in the Workshop making these dreams come true have been very rewarding, full of creativity, warmth and friendliness. Thanks to all for a truly magic experience! ~ Lina de Guevara
Hosted by ICA and PUENTE Theatre.
This project was made possible through funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.
