Patriot in Search of a Country
Co-written by virtuoso performer Grace Chan and Puente Theatre's Lina de Guevara, Patriot In Search Of A Country tells the passionate and often humorous story of Chan’s life-journey as she searches for her identity and a country to which she can pledge allegiance.
The play chronicles Chan’s first awakening as a Voice in her birthplace, the Philippines, and follows her through her struggles as a young woman caught between traditional Chinese family rules and contemporary values, to her immigration to Canada as a young adult. We witness the resulting isolation, frustration, and confusion she experienced in this country until finding her place in the world of music and opera..
Patriot In Search Of A Country is a truly unique piece of theatre, expressed through the spoken monologue and through Grace's exquisite repertoire of classical opera and Chinese and Tagalog music and art songs.
